Most windows and views in Magic Scout for Palm OS have an 'i' icon in
the upper right. Tap on this icon to bring up context-sensitive help describing
the window or view you are in.
Reading the online help on the Palm is hard. Is it available elsewhere?
The complete online help for both the Magic Scout Generator and Magic Scout
for Palm OS is installed on your Windows desktop computer by the installation
program. See the Help menu in the Magic Scout Generator for the full online
help, include the Palm help system. Or, you can
view it online in this web site (click the link).
Can I make the Magic Scout Generator build it's databases from my own data?
Since the format of the data from any public source can change at any time,
we copy 'stable' unaltered versions to our own servers for direct download
by the Magic Scout Generator. As such, we do not encourage users to bypass
the normal download and build process. But technically experienced users
can experiment and bypass the normal process by modifying the 'databases'
subdirectory, and replacing the downloaded zip files with their own data
(do not replace the HTML or text files... they are extracted on each build).
Users are cautioned that no support is provided when modifying the databases.
Do I get updates as new versions of Magic Scout become available?
When you register Magic Scout, you are entitled to free updates to the
main program for life! This means you can download a new version at anytime,
and simply install 'over top' of your existing version. Note:
major new features added to Magic Scout in future versions may have restricted
access for older registered customers. Free updates are limited to the
features available in Magic Scout when you purchased your registration,
and you may be required to purchase a product update to get all the latest new
features.
Do I get free updates to new Magic© databases once I register?
When you register Magic Scout, you are entitled to download
new databases for up to one year from the time you purchase your registration
code. After this time, you will be able to generate databases from newer
published data sets, but Magic Scout for Palm OS will notify you that you
need to purchase an update registration to get one more year of free
database access. Note: this limitation only applies to the timestamp
of the database you download and build. You may continue to download, generate and install
new databases indefinitely, as long as their 'source date' is within one year
of the date of registration. By purchasing database updates to Magic Scout,
you help pay for us to maintain the latest card sets and rulings from the
varying public Internet sources we use.
How often do you publish new databases?
DeepNet Technologies cannot promise how often or when we will publish
database updates (please see our Software
License for more details). Since we depend on publicly sanctioned and
available Magic© data sources, we cannot provide guarantees about updates.
We always include at least one reasonably current data set, and strive to
include new expansions within a month of release.
Stephen D'Angelo is retiring... what does this mean for Magic Scout and new databases?
Although Magic Scout depends on public and sanctioned Magic© data sources,
we are not directly dependent on any one repository. We will continue to modify the
Magic Scout Generator to collect and process data from wherever the data is available
and most current. Note that Wizards of the Coast has
officially announced that they will take over Stephen's excellent database, and intends
to continue this excellent heritage of Magic© data. We will monitor this situation
closely and adapt accordingly.
I found a bug. How do I report it?
We welcome all feedback from our users, including bug reports, suggestions,
gripes and complaints. Please feel free to e-mail us at:
support@MagicScout.com. Note that
support is limited to registered users.
Is Magic Scout available for Pocket PC, Windows, Linux, Macintosh, or other operating systems?
Not at this time. Windows and Pocket PC are strong candidates, but Macintosh and Linux
are unlikely.
Can I use Magic Scout to build and play decks?
Not at this time, but we will be adding such features over time. Note that
major new features such as deck building and game-playing may require the
installation and purchase of new software, and may not be included with
your existing purchase registration.
I used to use the free iSilo Magic© databases. Are they still available?
Yes, they are still available (click here). But,
we will no longer update the databases with new information. Magic Scout is
intended to replace the iSilo Palm databases we previously published for free.
I've changed my mind about the program and want my money back. Can I get a refund?
No: we do not provide refunds under any circumstances. Because the software is
shareware, and free to try out, we do not offer refunds. 100% of the functionality
of the program is enabled in the free shareware version.
Can I try out Magic before I buy it?
Absolutely... Magic Scout is 100% fully functional shareware. Just
download the program, and give it a try.
When you are happy with the program, you can
purchase a registration code.
What happens if I use Magic Scout without registering?
While unregistered, the program will occasionally
remind you to register and will reset all options. These
'nags' will remind you that you have not yet registered
the product. If you like and use Magic Scout,
please purchase it so we
can continue to publish new databases and updates.
Do I have to register the Magic Scout Generator?
No, only Magic Scout for Palm OS is registered. Once the Magic
Scout Generator is installed as part of the normal installation
process, there is nothing further you have to do use it.
